Amsterdam’s Red Light District
Amsterdam’s “Red Light District” has best been described as a walk-through “Candy Store” for adventurous adults seeking tempting treats of a sensuously nature. The district is made up of a well weaved, crisscrossed grid of streets and “paseo-like” alleyways lined with numerous tall, thin buildings designed specifically with large display windows.
Yes, there really are “red lights,” lots of them, lighting up the streets at night, and it truly is a mesmerizing visual wonder to behold. Very much like the immaculately dressed-up “Picture Window” presentations displaying the most desirable items available in your local uptown shopping mall. However, here the mannequins are attractive and alluring people, mostly women, and the product being offered up for sale is a little more than you’ll find in your local department store.
The first thing that you will notice about the ‘Red Light District is how immaculately clean and well kept it is. This is most definitely not some “bad side of town, down by the docks or wrong side of the tracks” scenario, this is a good, clean neighborhood, fully dedicated to making visitors feel right at home as they casually stroll by to simply see the sights or actually experience The Districts liberally loving hospitality.
Of course it’s not just about sex in the Red Light District, there are also a number of impressive cafes and clubs that offer a wide variety of “cannabis” products from hash brownies to fresh marijuana tea and from smoke at your table Hookah rentals to some other very creative methods of getting the cannabis into your system. Be sure to stop on by and say “High!”
Just a ten minute walk south from “Centraal Station,” Amsterdam’s major train station, the district consists of literally hundreds of shops, museums, bars, cafes, theatres and of course, nearly 300 of the famous eye popping human window displays where “mostly” beautiful ladies alluringly strut their stuff, act out stimulating, simulated activities and pose in the most provocative of positions to draw your attention.
We say “mostly” girls because there most definitely is a free spirited desire to provide an “equal opportunity” eye candy environment, with “specialty shops available for the most discriminating tastes and erotic proclivities. There are numerous live sex shows where pretty much anything and everything goes and we mean that, so ask questions as to what you may be in store fore before entering.
Originally a port where visiting sailors could take a little time off to unwind and have a good time after months on a ship, “The District,” dating all the way back to it’s 14th Century roots, is a place to just relax and do whatever you feel like doing. As long as you aren’t hurting or infringing on the rights of others, it’s pretty much a “Free Zone” where anything goes.
For those people concerned for their safety, rest assured that this is a peaceful, respectful and conscientious environment that polices itself with dedicated fervor to ensure that tourists and visitors always feel safe and relaxed enough to visit and stay.
However, common sense tells a wary visitor that while they are perfectly safe out and about on the main streets and in the heart of the district, use reasonable caution as you would anywhere in the world when traversing the outskirts of town or wandering down a dark alley way late at night all by yourself.
The truth is, The red Light District is not only one of the oldest and most popular areas in Amsterdam, but really is one of the major wonders of the world, It’s truly something that you have to experience, even if you have no intentions of participating in any of the activities described, or the many activities we simply can’t describe.
It’s time you stopped merely wondering and trying to imagine what it’s all about. This is definitely something that you need to experience for yourself!
