Amsterdam Weather – what you can Expect

People contact us all of the time to ask us our opinion about “when is the very best time to visit Amsterdam?” Every single time we get asked that questing, the truthful answer is always exactly the same! The very best time to visit Amsterdam is RIGHT NOW!

There simply isn’t ever a bad time to visit Amsterdam and to be perfectly blunt, if you haven’t experienced The Netherlands, particularly Amsterdam, in all four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, then you really truly don’t yet know Amsterdam at all.

I think the easiest way to describe the whether of Amsterdam is to compare to being relatively similar to the climate regularly found in Britain. Being only 7 feet above sea level, Amsterdam has a very mild climate, with very few extremes but lots and lots of surprises!

If there is one thing that you can absolutely count on in Amsterdam, is if you don’t like the way the weather is right now, then just wait 20 minutes and it will change. So while on average, you are going to experience a very comfortable, mild and when seasonably appropriate, damp climate, there will be times when the city enjoys a much warmer, drier, almost “Continental Climate, such as you would expect to experience in Germany.

This means it’s always wise to plan for surprises, so during a visit when the weather is warm and dry and the locals are frolicking in the exuberating “summer heat,” they know, and now, so do YOU, to make sure that you bring along something warm to wear if the temperature drops a bit or you start to experience some of the lovely rain showers that help to keep the scenery so magically green and vibrantly alive.

On average, July is the warmest month and February is the coolest. No real surprise there! However, unlike some western world climates, December is most definitely the wettest month and February is actually the driest.

You can expect the coldest weather between the months of December and March, when the weather can be magnificently clear and scenically gorgeous. Although it can get a bit frosty early in the morning and late at night, you are very unlikely to have your travels inhibited by snow. In the rate times that you do, the experience is absolutely majestic, like a veritable, story-book “Winter Wonderland!

During these really cold spells, enjoy the sensational spectacle of the locals excitedly lacing up their skates and zipping up and down many of the most popular stretches of nearby canals. It is definitely recommended that during your winter visit, you be sure to carry along a rain coat and umbrella with you, regardless of what “Aunt Edna’s arthritic trick knee” or the local weather reports claim the weather is going to be.

Amsterdam hotels, restaurants, brothels, “coffeeshops,” women and all of the various local businesses are very happy to have visitors during the winter months, so you will be treated like absolute royalty as their prices are drastically reduced and the perks and services are dramatically increased. This means you’re not only free from having to deal with all of the touristy crowds, but you are going to be treated like every vendors very best friend. That’ means “friends with perks!”

Amsterdam in spring explodes with life, energy, excitement and colors, aromas and flavors of the land, people and culture reawakening under the romantically hypnotic spell of nature itself rising up like the Phoenix to soar once again amongst the streams of sunlight bathing the world with exuberance and excitement .

The city heads out to enjoy the outdoor café terraces, fields of flowers, private boats and canal cruisers as the streets, parks and scenic wonders lure all eyes, ears, hearts and souls out of doors to come revel in the magic of the season!

The days continue to get longer and more beautiful, as it becomes more and more clear, exactly why so many wonderful painters hail for this wonderfully gorgeous locale. The trees begin to display their vibrant leafs, as the famous, local “Hyacinth, Narcissus and Crocus” enthusiastically bloom along with the world renowned Dutch Tulips.

Face it, spring effect every living creature the exact same way, it make us all horny as hell. The big difference is, when you’re horny in Amsterdam, the sky’s the limit and that feisty, sensuous horniness is going to be served right back at you by some extremely gorgeous women with a serious case of spring fever, so come prepared and come often!

With the coming of autumn, Amsterdam begins to experience the “exodus” of the large tourist crowds and suddenly prices begin to drop dramatically and a world traveler can get a much clearer sense of what the city is truly like, when it isn’t cluttered with tons of people scurrying around and monopolizing the city experience.

While it is just beginning to cool down, outdoor events continue on as usual, but without all the hustle and bustle of mass tourism. The cafés actually blossom with conversation, color and contemplation as the cultural art season officially begins and the weather is still warm and dry enough to sit on terraces and absorb all of the culture!

The cultural arts season in Amsterdam is utterly amazing, and includes everything from theater and opera to concert and dance productions, as well as numerous art exhibits and even street fairs with local face and body painting.

Some people believe this is the perfect time to take advantage of the falling prices, as there are a lot less tourists around, so the all of the hotels, restaurants, brothels, ladies, “coffeeshops”, and local vendors who have been overwhelmed with action, suddenly are beginning to feel lonely and unappreciated, which means a lot more “Bang and Bong” for your buck!

If you have never experienced the “Winter Holidays” in Amsterdam, then you truly don’t yet understand what “festive holiday cheer” is truly all about. The awe inspiring bright, colorful, celebratory lights, the decorations, the alluring aromas of a cavalcade of cultural culinary delights; it’s all so very awesome.

Hey, lets face it, nothing really says “Holiday Cheer” like a bunch of sexy, scantily clad women dancing and posing in brightly lit and radiating window displays, along with the seductive scent of cannabis, coffee and chocolate - cinnamon cake wafting through the air while enjoying a vast display of visceral visions grander than those of traditional “sugar-plums dancing through your wee little head.”

The “season of giving” is a truly great time to go “get some” in the amazingly wonderful city of Amsterdam.
